A long-time favorite that has become a holiday tradition, The Nutcracker brings the magical story of Clara and her wonderful present to life.
It is Christmas Eve at the Silberhaus home, and a lavish celebration is underway. Guests have arrived and are about to toast the lighting of the tree, when a knock on the door announces the arrival of the mysterious and magical Uncle Drosselmeyer. His magic begins with dancing dolls, gifts for all the children, and a "Nutcracker" doll for Clara. The party ends and Clara returns to find her beloved Nutcracker. Falling asleep on the sofa, she dreams mice are stealing the presents, led by the wicked Mouse King. Toy soldiers under the command of the Prince defend the frightened Clara. Clara and her Prince are summoned by the Snow Queen to the Land of Snow and Sweets. The Christmas Angels tell the Sugar Plum Fairy of her arrival and she is appointed Princess. Clara is entertained by dancing dolls from all parts of the world. Clara, along with her Prince, is transported back to her home in a sleigh.
The Nutcracker performs in The Stoughton High School Auditorium on the first Saturday in December during the Victorian Holiday Weekend at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 608-873-0717.
